Lifeguarding Blended r.24

1. Course Description  

The American Red Cross lifeguard training and certification are imperative to the process of getting hired on as an official Red Cross lifeguard. Our detailed training includes both testing of hands-on skills as well as comprehension on written tests. The certification, which includes First Aid, CPR and AED training, is valid for two years upon completion and is accepted nationwide. The American Red Cross is the most respected source for training and certification of this kind.

This option is for those training for the first time or for those whose certifications have expired. This course is available in traditional, in-person course format (27 hours, 25 minutes) and the Blended Learning course format (21.5 hours in person, 6.5 hours online). The prerequisites for this course include being 15 years of age and having passed the 2 pre-course swimming skills test.

This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session. This is a non-refundable course

2. Prerequisites

  1. Minimum age: 15 years 
  2. Must be able to pass a lifeguarding class prerequisite swim test which is as follows:

 

1. Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence

  • Swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. 
  • Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.
  • Swim goggles are allowed.
  • Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
  • Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

 

2. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds

  • Starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Lifeguarding Instructor Blended r. 24

THIS IS A NON REFUNDABLE COURSE 

The purpose of the American Red Cross r. 24 Lifeguarding Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach the basic-level courses in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program.

 Course Prerequisites
  • Be at least 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the Lifeguarding Instructor
  • course.
  • Possess a current basic-level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding (Including Deep
  • Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid. (Note: r.17 Lifeguarding
  • certification accepted)
  • Obtain instructor and participant course materials before starting the course.
  • Successfully complete the online session of the Lifeguarding Instructor course prior to the
  • precourse session.
  • Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario to continue in the course. The prerequisite skill assessment scenario evaluates the following skills:
    • Entry
    • Swimming approac
    • Surface dive in deep water (7 to 10 feet)
    • Passive submerged rescue
    • o Rapid extrication (with an assisting rescuer)
    • Rapid assessment
    • Single-rescuer CPR (3 minutes)
 

Course Delivery Method

Blended- this course will require the completion of a self paced online segment prior to the class and save proof. This link will be sent 3-7 days before the course. 

Successful Completion

To successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor course and receive a Lifeguarding Instructor certification, candidates must:

  • Successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor Course online session.
  • Successfully complete the prerequisite skill assessment scenario.
  • Successfully complete the Lifeguarding Instructor skill practice and polish session,demonstrating the following skills to instructor-level competency:
    • Entries and approaches
    • Active rescues at the surface
    • Passive rescues at the surface
    • Passive submerged rescues in shallow, moderate-depth and deep water
    • Feet-first and head-first surface dives in deep water
    • Rapid extrication using a backboard
    • Putting on gloves with wet hands
    • Two-rescuer CPR with AED for an adult
    • Surveillance and rotation procedures
    • Spinal motion restriction and extrication in shallow water
    • Multiple-Rescuer Team Response Scenarios
    • Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.
    • Actively participate in all course activities.
    • Successfully complete teaching assignments.
    • Small group teaching activities
    • Practice Teaching Assignment I
    • Practice Teaching Assignment II
    • Demonstrate instructor-level skill competency in all skills. This means being able to demonstrate all of the skill steps as they are written, in the correct order, and in accordance with the proficiency criteria to meet the objectives of the skill.
    • Successfully pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent.

Lifeguarding Instructor Blended Recertification Course R.24

THIS IS A NON REFUNDABLE COURSE 

Course Description :
The purpose of the American Red Cross r. 24 Lifeguarding instructor and Lifeguarding instructor trainer online update courses are to provide instructors and instructor trainers with an updated certification and essential knowledge about:
  • The updated r.24 American Red Cross Lifeguarding program and program materials.
  • Teaching strategies and techniques used when teaching courses and modules in the lifeguarding program.
  • A summary of key changes to the Lifeguarding basic-level courses.

All current American Red Cross Lifeguarding instructors and instructor trainers must successfully complete an r.24 update, earning an r.24 Lifeguarding instructor or instructor trainer certification, to teach the r.24 Lifeguarding program courses.

Note: Expired Lifeguarding instructors or instructor trainers, expired by no more than 1 year, that do not qualify to take the online update, may take a Limited-Edition Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer Recertification course (only available through December 31, 2024). This course is blended learning and will include the r.24 online update course. This course provides a path for expired instructors and trainers to update and recertify.   • r.24 Lifeguarding Instructor course
  • r.24 Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer Academy (for LGIs that meet the IT Academy qualifications).

Prerequisites for LGi/T Review:

  1. Possess one of the following current American Red Cross certifications:

Lifeguarding Review Blended r.24

The Lifeguarding Recertification course is designed to refresh your knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion, you will renew your certification for another two years. There are 2 options for recertification – instructor-led (classroom only) or blended learning (online + classroom).

The latest blended learning course, r.24 that includes online + in-person skill demonstration, features adaptive learning, where participants can test out of the online content they already know, allowing participants to ensure they are prepared. The result is a custom learning path for each student in the online portion of the blended learning recertification course.

This course combines classroom and practical in-person water, first aid and CPR/AED skills training. Building on the same knowledge and skills as our traditional training, the course trains lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water.

1. Prerequisites

To be eligible for this course you must have a certification no more than 30 days expired from THE AMERICAN RED CROSS by the last day of the course. NO EXCEPTIONS - there are no refunds for not having this. 
  1. Minimum age: 15 years 
  2. Must be able to pass a lifeguarding class prerequisite swim test

    – Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point.
    – Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
  • Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the skill sequence.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
